Audio Book Reviews

Since my 'full time job' is working out to lose weight and get stronger, I've been able to enjoy many audio books at the gym. Good fiction is my vice. Not going to give it up. However, I do want to be more informed and read more nonfiction.

A friend of mine keeps track of books that she reads and rates them and it's something I'd like to try. Note that while I say read, it could mean in book form or listened to it.

Rating system - 1 to 10. 1 being the worst. 10 being the best. 0 didn't or couldn't finish it.

Books of 2014
Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher by Timothy Egan [8]
Wonderful story telling, extensive and revealing history on the life of Edward Curtis while weaving in US history and the life of Native Americans. Got a little long towards the end.

Confessions of a Jane Austin Addict by Laura Viera Rigler [8.5]
Very fun read. Love the descriptions of modern day life.

Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach  [0]
Couldn't finish it was too gory. Got past the putrification and undertaking parts and just couldn't handle it anymore. Author has an informative narrating style that I did like.

Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation by Andrea Wulf
More than halfway through and loving it. Refreshing perspective on some of the founding fathers and forming events.

Books of 2013

[Not comprehensive]
Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters
WONDERFUL. WITTY. Read in sequential order as much as possible.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
Informative and engaging.

The Price of Civilization by Jeffery Sachs
Interesting but infuriating.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Worth the acclaim it has received.

You Can Read Anyone by David J Lieberman
Impractical to take advice for all situations. Author seemed overly bitter about relationships and being turned down for dates.

Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague by Geraldine Brooks
Loved the attention to detail and vivid descriptions of everyday life at the time. Ending did not feel true to characters, for me ruined the book.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Entrancing. Very enjoyable, will read again.

Hunger games trilogy

Secret life of bees

Water for elephants
